When Joan was in sixth grade, her mother gifted her with a five-year diary which started Joan’s love of journaling and continues to this day. Joan’s work has been published online and in print for my non-fiction and fiction stories. For two years, she wrote for a local newspaper interviewing interesting people and writing feature stores.
Joan earned her Master’s degree in Creative Writing/English in 2017 and has taught creative writing classes for The Leven Institute in Bakersfield, California, since then. She served on the Writers of Kern board for eight years, six years as their president. Along with writing romance and mysteries for adults, she also enjoys writing middle-grade adventure stories for kids. Joan earned her Life Coach and Certified Professional Coach certifications in 2022, and coaches writers and other creatives.
She lives in Bakersfield, California with her husband, along with four rescue pets: two energetic Australian Shepherd mixes (Madison and Jackie), a claustrophobic Maine Coon mix (Molly), and a tuxedo cat (Stormie) who believes she is the real head of the household.

While working 24 years in the grocery-retail industry and over eight years working for a top cable company, David spent over 30 years researching his own family ancestry. Wanting to use his skills to help others on a more personal level, David opened Ace Service Company in 2009.

A patient listener and expert troubleshooter/problem solver, David specialized in everything from computer builds and repairs, to home network installations. Knowing internet security was essential to his customers, he honed his skills by completing his Bachelor’s in Information Technology in 2013. He earned his Master’s in Information Technology with a concentration in Information Security and Assurance in 2020.

In the early 90’s, after losing three of his grandparents, David realized he knew very little about his grandparents and even littler still about where he come from. Taking a one-page computer printout from an uncle who had traced back the father’s family, David purchased a computer program called “Family Tree Maker” and began his genealogical journey of discovery. Since then, that small basic family tree has grown to over 10,000 people, and revealed a family that was previously lost and unknown to anyone in his family.

After all this time, David is still passionate about helping others research their family histories and find lost stories and missing relatives.

Natalia Corres was going to tell you about her years growing up reading everything she could get her hands on in the local libraries. She was going to tell you about the decades (40+) working in tech - both in support and development; and also adventuring in real life scavenger hunts, murder mysteries and role-playing dungeon and dragons play. She was going to tell you about the pet services business she built up and divided out to her staff so they would have their own livelihoods. And about the non-profit she started to help low and no income folks keep their pets. But the important stuff is this: she lives with her husband, and their dog, Logan, on the outskirts of suburbia - where she has befriended most of the wild critters in her neighborhood (crows, jays, owls, raccoons, possums, skunks, coyotes and donkeys). She paints and crafts and upcycles and is generally a good steward to her small corner of the universe. And she has never stopped creating and dreaming.
